Happening in 2021

CAAA is planning on hosting or attending a variety of virtual and in-person events in 2021, starting in January.

We will be holding an Abacus Dictation competition virtually on Sunday, April 25. (This has changed from Flash Mental Math.) This competition is open to all students of CAAA member teachers, regardless of region! Details are being finalized at this time, and registration will open soon. Registration for this event will be open until March 31.

Currently, the Assessment Test is tentatively planned for June 25-27, depending on region, and the Bay Area portion of the 2021 World City Cup, which will be held in various cities throughout the world, is tentatively planned for the night of July 24. At this time, these are planned to be in-person events. The registration deadline for these events will be May 25.

The CAAA Scholarship Program is expected to be substantially similar to the rules from 2020, but this is not yet finalized. The deadline for applications will be June 15.

If international travel is permitted and the competitions go forward, CAAA may attend the annual TCOC International Abacus and Mental Arithmetic Invitational in New Taipei City and the WAAMA Mental Arithmetic Competition in Seoul in August.

We plan to hold a virtual Flash Mental Math competition on Sunday, November 14 for all regions combined. (Currently, there is a possibility this may also change to Abacus Dictation.) Registration for this event is currently combined with the April Abacus Dictation event. If you would like to practice Flash Mental Math, please use this website made by Stephanie Chen!

Please note that all events and competitions in 2021 are tentative at this time, and dates and times may change as the virus permits. We hope all teachers, students, parents, and volunteers stay safe and in good health through this time, and hope to be able to see you again soon!
