The popularity and appreciation for learning abacus has grown exponentially over the years, as evidenced by pupils consisting of children of many ethnicity and ages. Abacus is regarded as a form of education which helps children tap into the unexplored treasures of the brain. It can help children improve mathematical and logical thinking abilities, and enable them to attain skills such as reasoning, conceptualization, observation, memorization, and concentration, to name a few.
For these reasons, CAAA supports a network of abacus teachers by providing resources and training seminars. Every few years, CAAA conducts a teachers' training course to educate aspiring instructors about how to teach abacus. Our teachers' training seminar prepares young and seasoned abacus teachers, and aspiring abacus instructors who share an interest to serve at community Chinese schools. Offering abacus courses at community Chinese schools is one of the most valuable and effective ways to spread the rich cultural heritage of the abacus to younger generations. During the two-day program, participants acquired a stronger grasp on the principles of teaching and lesson planning, and sharpened their teaching skills through practicum.
